Ferry to Venice – Day 18

Morning on the ferry from hell. Woke up at around 730 ~ 8am. The room was steaming hot and there was no window to open or air conditioning to adjust. After going downstairs to use the toilet I came back to the room to have a quick shower. Only to realise they do not supply any soap or anything else. I did have a towel though. So I had a quick shower to rinse myself off then got dressed and went down stairs.

Eventually we were allowed into the breakfast room. However our group was not to have the breakfast the rest of the ship got. We were handed prepared rashions. An egg Croissant and maybe a biskit. Was not even allowed a hot chocolate. Tea or coffee only. No milk. I ate my Croissant. Rhian had not shown until after our breakfast time was over. But Cathi saved her and Lucy a plate each to have. Rhian only had a bun, It was soo bad she didn’t eat much. Since we had a crap breakfast, a few went to get a proper coffee she got ripped off and paid 18 euro as the guy said that she gave him a $5 instead of a $20 even others witnessed it and they contested it but still wouldn’t repay her the money. Ripped off and RUDE!!

I bought a drink at one of the bars. A Mars chocolate drink, three euro for a fun size sip of milk. You can buy beer by the gallon in europe but milk or iced coffee is a rare commodity. The rest of the day was spent walking around bored shitless and sleeping. Rhian and I did have lunch together. We had to buy it but it was ok. We had spaghetti bolognese. Was actually good and also had chocolate mousse for dessert.

Finally while sleeping the announcement was given to get out of the room as we were arriving in port. Didn’t have to tell us twice. Apparently some of the people in our group had been told to get out of their rooms earlier.

Getting off the boat was the best part of the trip so far. Could not be more happy to be off that bloody ferry. You won’t get me doing any form of a boat cruise for a very long time. The bus still had about 400kms to travel to reach Venice. We stopped for dinner at an Autogrill about half way to Venice. Everyone was happy for the food at this service stop.

The bus arrived in Venice at around 11pm. Everyone checked inn and went straight to bed.

Corfu to Venice – Day 17

Today was pretty much a free day to do what you wanted. The only place we had to be was at the bus withg our bags at 6pm. We also had to be checked out of the hotel by 12pm but were free to hang around the hotel until our departure for the port at 6pm.

Having still a bit of a blocked ear and recovering from the previous night I was not about to go swimming again. I did make the most of the good breakfast offered by the hotel. The food at this hotel was probably some of the best we have had on tour. After both Rhian and I were done with breakfast we locked up our bags and checked out of the hotel. We left our bags with the others in the luggage room.

I started to catch up on the last few days of blogs while Rhian walked off down the road with Cathi, Kelvin and Amy. About twenty minutes later I got an SMS they were at a cafe down the road having milkshakes and watching the planes land and take off. I packed up my stuff and wandered down to join them.

The milkshakes were very good. I was not hungry though so I watched the others eat while waiting for the next plane to come in. After everyone was feed we walked down the path to the footpath crossing the inlet. The footpath travelled directly under the flightpath for the runway. The planes passed over top of you with only 100ft or so clearance.

We sat on the wall for an hour or so taking photos of the planes as they came in to land and take off. After this we all walked back to the hotel lay around killing time until we departed. I finished the blogs I had yet to write. Since I like to wake Rhian up all the time during the night (as I woke up constantly because of my man flu) she went to rest to sleep around the pool.

Eventually 6pm came around and everyone piled onto the bus for the short trip to the ferry port. We still had a couple of hours to kill here as the ferry didn’t depart until 8pm. We went for a look around and sat down and had an iced coffee that was the best one to date. The ferry trip was the same as the one that got us to Corfu and we arrived back at Albania aropund 10pm. The ferry to take us back to Italy was late and when it did arrive it took longer than expected to load all the trucks, cars and busses onboard.

I was rooming with the same guys I did on the way over, same with Rhian as well. They did not give each of us a key so we went to reception to get more keys then joined the others at the bar located at the front of the ferry. Unlike the staff on the ferry on the way over the staff on this ship were Greek, The rudest most asshole staff any of us had ever experienced. They were rude., Refused to serve us. Ripped us off. This was even before we had gone to bed.

After a Hot Chocolate Rhian and I went to bed.

Corfu – Day 16

Free day today so you could get up and do what ever you wanted. However I got up in time to be at the buffet breakfast on time. Again the food was awesome. I had bacon, bake beans, frankfurts. Was awesome. After breakfast Rhian and I made the decision to pay the $83 euros and have the washing done at the hotel. It cost us about $118 Aus. But neither Rhian nor I could be bothered taking all our washing on the bus into the city to get it done. It would be cheaper but it was still a service where you drop it off and pick it up later.

After dropping our washing off we went the bus stop out the front of the hotel. We bought tickets at the shop up the road because they are slightly cheaper than buying them on the bus. The ride was very cramped and hot into town. Rhian and I walked around the town for a while looking in all the shops in the city. Rhian was like Matilda let of the leash. Darting from one shop to another.

We found one store where I bought a man bag to carry the tablet and other small things. Rhian bought a handbag a dress and some other stuff. We also found a nice Corfu magnet to add to the collection. We stopped for pizza and milkshakes at a cafe near the beach. We caught the bus back to the hotel and then chilled by the pool and had a swim. Rest of the afternoon was spent around the pool drinking and relaxing with others from our tour. Rhian then went of the the beauty salon across the road at the other hotel while I stayed around the pool with others.

I got some water stuck in my ear while swimming. I couldn’t dislodge it and after dinner I went straight to the room to rest. Hoping it would dislodge. Rhian put some ear drops in my ear which sort of helped but was painful. I got nauseous so I had a few hours of hell until I passed out. Rhian took of to go bowling across the road with the others again.

The water finally exited during the night but I was up a few time because of it. Rhian is in good health though. Hopefully when we leave Greece tomorrow I can leave my sniffly nose here too. I have not been ill until we arrived in Greece so hopefully it stays here.
